So why is it the iPod has a usage life of around 2 years, and why do so many try to blame Apple about using iTunes to terminate the unit at approx. a 2 year mark. Kid yourself all you want.

These units are made to last, just not forever!

An electronic device is still an electronic device, with real moving parts the iPods life is longer than you could really expect. Think to yourself, how long does you cell phone last, before you get crappy reception?

If the iPod wasn’t such an addiction maybe more people would turn to picking up the Blackberry Curve (8310, 8320, 8330) lets say. It plays video and Mp3’s, It’s a phone. It also has a hardware upgrade option at most carriers, so after a few years, when it starts to crap out. You get a new one with a major discount. It’s not a perfect solution, but it is a way to safe guard a unit that takes a lot of abuse, maybe not by you, but static forces and voltage monsters are at play here!
