Gen X+Y=Z... What's a CD? - iTunes catching Walmart

Apple Store
Most of the kids these days don't even remember the Sony Walkman Sport, when the waterproof cassette player and its yellow sports headphones was the cool thing to own. Most of them don't know what is was like to carry around a portable CD player and endure it skipping over and over as you walked. Now it seems that most of them don't know that music comes on CD's and that you can buy it from a music store. Well, that last statement isn't completely true, it seems that Walmart still leads at the #1 spot for music sales, and right behind them is iTunes.
Apple Online Store

Eventually as MP3, WMV and MPA playing devices invade the home and the Wifi networks communicate with more and more entertainment equipment, CD's will go the way of the Cassette and the DoDo Birds before them. iTunes and other online music retailers will pass Walmart in music sales. The future is so digital it’s scary.

Don't pay full price for the XBOX HDDVD addon

UPDATE: Correction. XBOX HD-DVD will be dumped from the Microsoft product line. Expect to see these with "must go" price tags. In dumpsters, marked as "right-offs" very soon.

Rumor: Microsoft to lower price on HD DVD add on. The rumor mills are flying about what Microsoft will do with it's HD DVD support. Price to hit under $50 in near future for the HD DVD addon drive. Yes the HD DVD content library won't be added to, the same as the BlueRay format anymore, you still might want to pick up one of these to play all the old discount HD DVD content. We say.. forget it! it's still a waste of $50.

I hear them! But the mouth is out of sync – AVI Conversion

This has to be the most annoying and frustrating part about converting video. It’s due to a few reasons and some can be corrected and some can’t. Video converting golden rule 1. The conversion is as only as good as its source. rule 2. Some codecs just should never be used.. not naming names.. but some are so LAME.

Going from “AVI to MP4” or “AVI to DVD”, you need to do a couple of checks if you run into a file that has audio problems.

1. Take a look at the video information for the avi file you are having issues.

FPS can be a major reason why you run into audio out-of-sync. During conversion there is a frame rate drop and in re-turn the video is off sync.

· Go to the file in explorer and right click it and choose properties.
· Go to the summary tab… and you might need to click advanced.

What you should see is the frame rate settings. Use that in your conversion program as the FPS (Frames per second).

2. If FPS isn’t the issue and the file plays correctly with your video player than you’ll need to a virtualdub program that re-records it with a constant frame rate and also records the audio again with a different audio codec. Virtual dubbers actually record the file as it’s playing, not digitally. This could fix the issue as well, allowing you to then digitally convert it to DVD or MP4.

Will it be a PS3 Blueray or a XBOX HDDVD

Just Commentary: Will BlueRay support be added to the Xbox.
The obvious answer is YES. The when is still up for grabs? Since we now know that HDDVD will be leaving the market "EXIT STORE LEFT". Blueray DVD is now the defacto standard. Microsoft will probably hold out, but eventually they will move to Blueray to support the next generation movie releases.

Maybe SONY won't license the Blueray technology to Microsoft.
Maybe Microsoft will try to extend the HD DVD with promotions of past titles. If you own an xbox then you could always stream Blueray Discs from your computer to the xbox.

Right now like everyone, there are more questions than answers. The only answer I have, is buy a gaming system to play games that you are interested in. If you like Microsoft titles than buy an XBox. If you want a PS3 with Blueray... buy it because you love the PlayStation games.

Pass the scotties or puffs! Toshiba holds wake!

Press Release: http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/news/newsarticle.asp?newsid=198

Taps has been heard resonating out of the Toshiba headquarters. The war on which player will reign is over. All hail SONY!!! Blue-ray. HD-DVD will go the way of Beta and Laserdisc. The HD-DVD player might of been the better next-generation video player, but with-out media it was starved into an early grave... RIP HD-DVD 2006-2008.

Question is! Will Toshiba ever make a BlueRay player. That is after Sony has released the rights! Toshiba statement to continue making DVD players is limiting, and I'm sure that as market shift occurs from DVD to Blueray, deals will be struck and players will show up!

Changing AVI files to DVD

Making a DVD From a AVI file.

If your AVI file is not DRM protected than all you need to do is convert it to DVD format (VOB) and select the VideoTS folder in your burning software.

Cucusoft AVI to DVD pro -Trial Download
Cucusoft AVI to DVD lite - Trial Download
Try MOVAVI

Burning an AVI file to play in your DVD player is fairly simple. You just need the right program.
Now making a copy of any files downloaded from a P2P network is prohibited by law in some countries.

Steps to turn a AVI file - Lets say from GRABOID or any P2P network.
1. Run the AVI Conversion from AVI to DVD
2. This Creates a VideoTS folder. Burn it to DVD +- R

** Note.. that you must burn a DVD Disc as DVD Video. If you are using Nero, Sonic, RecordNow Etc, DO NOT Burn files as data as the DVD will not play on a normal DVD player. You must choose the DVD Video option so that the disc is written as a DVD video disc.

Is a DIVX Player! The way to go.
I find that a DIVx DVD player (Can be picked up for $50-$60), Just look for the DivX symbol on the DVD Player. Is the way to go! You can fit 5-6 full length movies in avi format on a disc. The disc is created as a DATA disc in the burning software.

Divx players play almost every AVI, MPEG type files. Must also support the xVid codec.

VERIFACE! Do you really need your face scanned.

ThinkPad

The Lenovo Ideapad has some great little features for the home office/ home entertainment laptop models. Voted Best of CES 2008 (IdeaPad U110) CNET,Jan 08.

· VeriFace facial recognition security
· Dolby home Theater sound
· Multimedia Control Center with touch-sensitive buttons
· GameZone keys with secondary display

But why! Why do I need a security software that's going to scan my face for recognition. It's tre cool, but isn't necessity the mother of invention. I don't really need this, and not on a home/home office line of machines.

Great Option! I really liked that the model 710, actually had an optional 2nd hard drive. It's one thing that laptop owners never really get to take advantage of. Having a second hard drive is great for mirroring personal information for data protection loss. The chance of you losing both drives at the same time is slim! Unless someone steals the laptop of course!

Is Apple dropping the Gamer Ball?

Is not releasing an SDK smart?
At least to a core set of developers. Lets face it, if you own a iPhone or and iPod Touch you are pretty much rail roaded into using iTunes for good or bad. Now wouldn't an actual games section in the iTunes store (iGames) be something that the iPhone and iPod Touch owners just eat up. Actual games not developed to run in Safari? I'm sure Apple could work with some of the major game studios to develop some amazing game downloads. Every one would be running out to buy a game controller and maybe even myvu glasses to enhance the game display.

I'm not saying that developing games in Safari HTML (development center) is horrible. Just limiting! One big issue an SDK release from Apple could cause, a DIVx video player might get developed. I'm sure that iTunes managers cringe at the idea that a player that could play something other than MP4(AAC) files might cut into iTunes sales. I think that if someone wants DIVX on the iphone, it's becuase they don't want to convert the file they got from some other place. They most likely only use iTunes to sync the files anyways.

Iphone - iGirl or iWash i'm feeling dirty!

http://www.clubwesttv.com/ - iWash

to Download the file..just right click above link and Save link as.

1) Synchronizing iVirtuaGirl
Right click on the link above, choose "Save As" and download the video.Double-click on it. iTunes will open and play it.Put your iPhone in the cradle until above sync window shows up.Go to the video tab. Check the box that says iVirtuaGirl_VickyS . Sync your iPhone.

2) Performing iVirtuaGirl
Click the home button on your iPhone. Click the iPod button (bottom right). Hit “videos”. Select iVirtuaGirl_VickyS. You’ll be playing a video. You’ll see a fake home screen (all part of the video) for 5 seconds. Now is a good time to show the screen and tell someone that this thing is voice activated by saying “Stripper”. Once your victim yells “Stripper” the show starts.

Even better yet!! Get VirtualGirl for you're desktop and they dance all day!! Get more Girls and iGirls now! Always updated, Always more girls

From Uncovered search results, I've notice a lot of people trying to find iGirl or iWash. Both of these two movie clips are funny little . Play on your iPhone as movies. These are not screen savers, and you probably won't see them as such, until iPhone SDK is release. Still really funny!

It does bring up the interesting point, what will they think of next. Is the iPhone going to be littered with porn clips? With the SDK upcoming release, will the iPhone and iPod Touch become the next portable gaming platform.

The iPhone has just claimed "Most used" platform for mobile web searches, and that says that the public views this device as portable media access device over just a plain old cell phone.

So why doesn't someone develope an iPet, so I have something else to look after!

Run multiple operating systems on your machine!
Giving you options
Virtual Environments are a testers best friend.
The biggest issues with testing a new environment is when things go wrong. It's better to lose a virtual environment, which can be backedup and used over and over. Than your main operating system.

Use Windows, need a Windows Server and want to play with Linux. You can have it on a single PC.
Parallels Workstation 2.2 is avaiable as a 15 Day Trial.

So give it a try. You'll see that at any skill level you can get you're system up and running.
I've been using virtual environments for QA testing, Windows Server testing, to test Java code in Apache on Linux. VM makes life so much easier.

I can't believe i just deleted that file!

File Recovery by PCTOOLS
We have all done it! We hit the delete button and the file is too big for the recycle bin and it's instantly erased! Well it's still there, it's just not showing in the FAT(File allocation table) NTFS (NT File System). It can be recovered!

File Recover is a safe, affordable and easy-to-use file and data recovery solution, designed to recover and restore deleted files from hard drives, floppy drives and other types of fixed media.

File Recover allows you to recover critically important documents, or other files, which have been lost by accidental deletion. These files may be lost by emptying the Recycle Bin, or using other deletion actions that bypass the Recycle Bin altogether. Such actions include Windows Shift-Delete, command line deletion, deleting excessively large files or using applications that delete files without the Recycle Bin.

When a file is deleted from the Recycle Bin, or if the recycle bin is bypassed altogether, the file can no longer be recovered by the Windows Operating system. The content of the file still remains on the drive, relatively intact, until the section of the drive it occupies is overwritten by another file.

File Recover identifies the contents of such lost files on the hard drive and allows you to recover them. If a file has been partially overwritten, File Recover attempts to reconstruct as much of the file as possible with the remaining contents. This allows you to salvage at least part, if not all, of that recovered file to continue using it as required.

Don't just accept the data loss, documents can be re-written, but your personal movie files, or you pictures can't be replaced. Getting a utility that not only provides peace of mind, but is a great addition to anyones PC toolkit is what you need!

Microsoft to go Hostile? Depends on Yahoo's board.

This weekend shook out, with the Yahoo board of directors giving the 43 Billon dollar deal a thumbs down today, why!

They say Yahoo is worth more. As we have seen. It wouldn't matter how much money Microsoft threw at Yahoo, it's never going to be enough. Competitors never get along, and if they accepted the offer, it would be like sleeping with your enemy.

So what might happen? Microsoft can look at moving towards a "Hostile" take-over and let the courts decide, or get enough Microsoft friendly members on the Yahoo board and sweeten the deal.

Overall, this whole thing is stupid and it's basically a waste of time and energy. Most people search and advertise with Google and most of the other stuff Microsoft already owns, who are they kidding.. a Microsoft Yahoo Search is still going to be second best.. I guess they just want to move up in the rankings! I like both Yahoo and Microsoft for different reasons.... just not as one.

Giving your iPod Touch voice on skype!

Lately a lot of questions and talk have been around the iPod Touch and it's wifi capabilities and the ability to turn it into a VoIP phone.
The biggest set back people faced making calls on IP using the iPod Touch was the microphone missing from the unit.

http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/2007/12/touch-4-voip-mi.html is a home made solution and even more mass market solutions are showing up http://www.blueye.co.uk/ which can be purchase at gear4store.com. Find a deal on a iTouch Mic on eBay now.

That being said, I guess everyone will be skype'ing the iPod Touch for a Wifi Hotspot enable phone, sooner than later. Seeing how Apple TV and the Iphone have been skype'd

Iphone oh! Iphone be my Andriod!

So the iPhone may need to hurry up on its SDK release. Google has just shown off Google Andriod Open Source. It’s promising to provide an open SDK for phone software development. This is exactly what iPhone developers have been chomping at the bit for over a year.

When the development community enquired and pleaded, Apple (AAPL) responded with Safari based development, screams of this isn’t good enough have been heard and it looks like we are getting closer to an actual SDK.
Now with development already started in the Android camp with phones coming, maybe in Q3/Q4 2008. What killer application will they have! Will the iPhone developers be ready in time, seeing they haven’t got their hands on the SDK?

Looks like a price drop is coming to sell more iPhones soon too! The more people on board isn’t it suppose to be easier to sink the ship!

Kaspersky - A better Virus and Internet Security Company

Get Kaspersky Anti-Virus Now!

Overall, There are only really a handful of Virus and Internet Security companies that mean anything to the general public. The rest pretty much just suck money out of our pockets, while we think and expect that we are being protected.

The one thing that Kaspersky does that actually makes me think that they actually care about us the consumer, is provide a FREE online scan, which doesn't install anything but a activex control. What I mean, is you're not downloading the entire product and installing it.

Another plus! They allow a fully functional 30 day free trial that cleans and protects you, while you decide if this is the software for you.

What does Microsoft really want with Yahoo!

Why Does Microsoft want Yahoo!

It's a valid question? Maybe the only thing they want from Yahoo! Is the advertising software? Maybe to integrate the yahoo search algorithms.

If you look at what Microsoft does better than Yahoo, and again the other way. What does this leave?

Maybe it's to dismantle portions of yahoo that Microsoft just doesn't want out there or to transform Yahoo Shopping into a Microsoft shop of the world.

Yahoo widgets would probably stay around, seeing how the user base is Windows XP and Mac users.

Maybe they want the Domain Hosting to up-sell MySpace users with thier own domain names!

Could it be that Yahoo chat is cutting into MSN Messenger… don't think so...

Overall - What do they want! They want what makes money! It's the Yahoo Search Solutions and advertising pieces that Microsoft hasn't figured out how to do very well. What they do know how to do is integrate products into their own software. This is really about Microsoft wanting to take on Google for market share.

Only time will tell. But Google is certainly going to make this as hard as possible for Microsoft to do.

Maybe someone at Microsoft is looking for a date in the Yahoo Personals!

Ipod Touch - Get's a lot more room!

Apple Online Store
It's the size the inital one should of been shipped out as!

The best thing about the Touch is watching movies on it's bigger widscreen display.. The only thing is.. movies eat up disk space!

The iPod touch just doubled in size..! You can now get a 32GB model. This is the best thing to happen, other than a 64GB model. The touch now becomes more attractive as a portable computing solution.

The biggest complaints about the Ipod Touch was that it lacked in drive space, this made almost every CONS list about it.

With the application software package upgrade and a increased HD capacity, it looks like the Touch should regain some sales momentum.

Apple also announced that the iPhone now get's a 16GB drive model as well.

She Loves Me Not! She Loves me NANO!

Apple Online Store
Be My Valentine! Ok so Apple is pushing the PINK NANO! Now you might think that is another mass market holiday promotional gimmick. Let’s stop for a moment and actually think about this idea. I’m thinking that it’s really not a bad idea at all.

I go out and drop $70-$100 on two dozen roses and $40 on a decent box of chocolates. Talk about getting caught up in a marketing holiday! My wife doesn’t even feel I put enough time in thinking about the gift and I’ve dropped up to $140 dollars.

So the Pink Nano might be that one thing she wouldn’t expect! I could pre-load our Wedding Song, or that song that was playing when we first met! MUSH.

Then I could get Apple to engrave, “The Love of my Life, The song in my heart!” on the back.

This could be the one Valentines day she thinks to herself… Maybe he actually thought ahead, was thinking of me before the drive home from work, when he stopped at the Quicky Mart to get me a gift and a tacky card.

The new iPod nano. Now with video. From $149. Free shipping.

Does one really need to Skype your Apple TV

If you really think that the device that is suppose to be your entertainment center and give you access to movie and tv downloads, as well as stream from your media center doesn't do enough. Then you might want to check out the Skype Apple TV plugin.

With the Plugin you'll be able to make VoIP calls through a USB headset, or send text messages with a USB Keyboard.

Now this is rumoured to no longer work after the up coming Take 2 update, which should be release by the end of next week if not sooner.

80 and want an iPod - It won't kill you.

Maybe it will if you're listening to it and fall over and hit the ground, and can't find you're emergency call button! "I've fallen and can't get up".. Or maybe you're jogging listening to you're iPod. At 80 .. that might kill you..

Ok seriously... "[ Washington Reuters News Service, 1 February 2008 ] - Portable media players such as iPods are unlikely to interfere with heart pacemakers, a US Food and Drug Administration researcher reported yesterday.

FDA researcher Howard Bassen and colleagues set up a complex experiment using a saline-filled bag to simulate the human body and a coil sensor designed to pick up electromagnetic emissions.
They measured the magnetic fields produced by four different iPod models: a fourth-generation iPod and an iPod with video, and an iPod nano and an iPod shuffle. They also measured the voltages delivered to the inside of the pacemaker by the magnetic fields from the iPods.

All their measurements indicated the iPods could not affect cardiac pacemakers, they reported in the journal BioMedical Engineering OnLine." Read more @ Itweb.

So maybe if you have you're iPod, iPhone turned on, hooked into your technology package upgrade in your new commuter car. You'd better make sure that you don't get near a coffee shop with a wifi hotspot.. you might not be safe. I know that they need to test this stuff, but it's still a little silly that somebody probably has a law suit against Apple, claiming that there iPod gave them a heart attack.

Microsoft to buy Yahoo!

If the billion dollar offer goes through and Microsoft owns Yahoo, what does will it mean?

Microsoft will finally enter the search engine market as a player. As much as they have tried, MSN Search hasn't taken off as Microsoft had hoped. When they purchase Yahoo, they take over and integrate Yahoo Search as well as Yahoo Overture and probably trash the rest, convert yahoo mail to MSN Live.

Letter from Microsoft to Yahoo Board

I'm a fan of Yahoo and Microsoft as seperate companies, I really hope the Board doesn't believe they need Microsoft and it's offer to make a profit, and generate growth. If this went through I don't seen any gains for Yahoo, only for Microsoft.

I see this as a WIN - LOSE...
