Scrabble your ipod!

iPod Games: Scrabble

It wasn't so long ago that the Facebook version of scrabble was hit with a law suit! I'm sure the reason over a Copyright Lawsuit was that the Electionic Arts probably paid nose and teeth to bring a Apple version of the famous tile and board game direct to your iPods everywhere!

Now you can play one of the most popular board games in history on your iPod. Fire up Scrabble and take on up to three human opponents or the computer, with three levels of difficulty available. A built-in dictionary acts as final arbitrator on all words, and if you find yourself stuck, you have four chances per game to ask the computer for the best word possible. As competitive player Stefan Fastis wrote in his book “Word Freak”: “The game is a carefully choreographed pas de deux, a delicate balance between risk and reward.”

Photo Story 3, Microsofts Picasa! Sort of.

Microsoft's Photo Story 3 for Windows.
I've always been a fan of photo collection software, sorting, editing and creating collections of my favorite pics is a great time waster around my house.

Photo Story at first glance is just an update to the MS-Photo editor that used to pop-up when I clicked a graphic file. They have come a long way from that useless app. To a more full fledged photo gallery app.

You can now Create slideshows, burn DVD's, create fun photo stories that you can share with your family and friends. Photo Story 3 for Windows is a free download available here. It's a lot faster than picasa, only becuase the Google Picasa photo discovery service is a real pain! and the folder drop down takes way too long to load.

Windows XP SP3 coming soon! This week?

Windows SP3 to be finally released.
Windows XP End of life is this June. This will most likely be the end of the service fixes for XP. With the Windows Vista SP1 Service pack release last week, it's the signal of the end for all the XP fans, as Microsoft will start to shift it's staffing to Vista requirements and the new upcoming OS (2010) . It doesn't mean that everyone is going to jump the Vista train just yet. Looks like most will likely migrate after Vista SP2. SP1 seems to less than perfect!
Check Windows XP landing page later this week for SP3 download info
[Mar 25, 2008] Looks like MS has delayed it again, they just released SP3 RC3.. Not much additional fixes in RC3. So maybe it's the last release canidate. Honestly.. they probably won't firm it up until the EOL this June.. means.. here you go.. SP3... Have fun! XP is done.

iTunes Unlimited - Why not?

Who cares about eMusic, really!

iTunes needs to do something! The biggest issue with online downloading is the pricing that is eating at every single music and movie lovers back pocket. iTunes doesn't need to go to a subscription or unlimited plan. eMusics threat that a law suit is appearant is a laugh. iTunes could bundle a gift card to itunes with each new purchase, slash prices to downloads and work with music and movie companies to reduce prices.

The way iTunes,Amazon,Netflix and Zip prices are going, they are probably losing more money to online file sharing than price cutting would cost them.

Let's see a little online file downloading price war! It's about time.

EA - SPORE Game created approx 2 1/2 weeks

SPORE - Ea Created Spore using CocoTouch and the new iPhone SDK and has created a fairly decent game mockup for what could really be released during the later part of this year under the new iPhone and iTouch iTunes application section. So far with 18 working levels, video fades and control features, the demonstation show more about what could be coming to the iPhones gaming future than what a cool game SPORE is, well actually it about as bad as half of the web application the iPhone and iTouch can play right now using the Safari HTML SDK.

Do you really need to TIVO you-tube!

Just a question here, but do we really need to Tivo YouTube videos? It's not like one might miss a YouTube Cast, or can't get to the computer. I just don't understand the reason they spent the time to integrate it into the Tivo systems. I guess Tivo wants to compete with Apple TV and Cable Broadcasters with movie downloads and now Youtube vids!

PRESS RELEASE: TiVo to Provide YouTube Videos Directly to the TelevisionALVISO, Calif., March 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- TiVo Inc. (Nasdaq: TIVO), the creator of and a leader in television services for digital video recorders (DVRs), today announced an agreement with YouTube(TM) that will offer access to YouTube videos directly from the TV via a TiVo DVR. The service will be available later this year to broadband-connected subscribers with TiVo Series3(TM) DVRs, including the new TiVo HD.Every day hundreds of millions of videos are viewed on YouTube and hundreds of thousands of videos are uploaded.

Upon launch of the TiVo-YouTube service, TiVo users will be able to search, browse and watch these videos directly on their television sets through their broadband connected TiVo DVRs. The combination of having the YouTube experience with the convenience and familiarity of TiVo's intuitive user interface will provide TiVo subscribers with the ability to discover and enjoy the most shared and most discussed web videos in the world on their televisions. Importantly, users will be able to log into their YouTube accounts directly from their TiVo boxes and access their favorite YouTube channels and playlists."We're delighted to be working with the world's leading online video community so that TiVo subscribers can access YouTube's popular content on the TV via the TiVo DVR," said Tara Maitra, Vice President and GM of Content Services at TiVo Inc.

Iphone SDK - a lot more than before!

The iPhone SDK ($99 Cheeky buggers) will be available to developers. That is the developers with out AAPL connections already and are already testing the Beta SDK. The SDK at a glance is more than expected, it will open development wide open, except you have to have you're application approved, gain a certificate from apple and have it only available from with-in iTunes.

Clear statements that "NO" SIM unlock software with be available through iTunes, now I can almost bet you that you won't find Divx players every available to download from iTunes, it seems that the only applications that will be allowed to be developed for the iPhone, will be applications that don't make a dent in AAPL's pockets.

Game development by EA has already started and expect to see SPORES in the iTunes, approx mid September. iPhone software 2.0 is a huge step forward for iTouch and iPhone users. At least some of your favourite Safari application should be ported to iPhone 2.0, expect to see some of those free software apps, no longer free with small download fees! They have to get back that $99 some how! :)

iPhones future may be now

Apple will announce today the iPhones SDK and Enterprise roadmap, baring any delays (we hope). Rumor is. well that it's not everything it could be and well, the only way you'll get you're developed app onto the iPhone is if it's sold via iTunes. Sounds like more of a iPhone widget SDK then a full blown SDK. Let's hope something shook up and this morning brings an open development platform... Thats most likely never going to happen, Jobs is too much of a control freak to every open Pandoras box.

Imagine applications that edit movies, play any movie file! Integrate the iPhone into corporate databases, and so on. Could an application that tells you when you walk into a club or a bar, which friends are there before you even find them be in the future, the here and now.

Today at 10 PST, the future iPhone application roadmap becomes the present. We wait and hope!

Stop paying to Unlock or Jailbreak your iPhone

The biggest scam out there, is to get people to pay for something that is free. I don't mind paying for a GUI, that make it easy to use something that is complicated. With iPhone jailbreaking and SIM unlocking, its not hard to see that people will be tricked into paying for some thing that is actually stolen GPU software. Looking for Jailbreak or SIM unlock software check out the real project first.

Creating smaller sized video files - Quality Loss?

File Size Reduction.
If you are looking to reduce the file size of a video file! Three options apply, but not all are created equal. File size reduction, is really about removing portions of the video stream or making the initial video resolution smaller.
Reduction of Resolution is the most dramatic reduction in file size.
Reducing the video bit rate - reduces the quality of the video. You can successful reduce the rate by small amounts and not notice a drastic video quality reduction.
Lowering the FPS (Frames Per. Second), removes the frames not seen by the human eye. If you lower the FPS too low, you may encounter pixilation (blank square blocks), during action scenes or dark scenes.
Using a 1-click converter can help create quality video at lower sizes.

Top Picks.

  1. Cucusofts iPhone Suite
  2. Cucusofts Dvd to iPod
  3. MOVAVI for multiple Video Types
