Protecting Yourself Online, The Internet tracks everything.

The importance of online privacy is not only about keeping personal information safe, it’s also about keeping your personal location, from prying eyes. It’s also about keeping you identity safe. Identity theft is one of the increasing problems with internet use. So what can you do.

1. Cookie Management, Cleaning Expired Cookies.

A cookie is information left on your machine from websites you visit, this information is not always harmful, but contains some information about your visit, this information can be cleaned up by finding the remove cookies option in each browser type, or you can try using a shareware tool like www.ccleaner.com which has built in support for most browser configurations, like Google Chrome, IE, FireFox, Optra and Safari as well as some Windows Locations that store your browsers surfing history.

2. Use a Browser with a built in Privacy Mode

A feature showing up in new Browser versions is a Privacy Mode, or incognito.
This mode makes sure that your browser doesn’t record any information or store any cookies on your machine, and removes anything in use after the termination of the browser process.

3. Make a DUMMY Email Address

Keep a dummy e-mail account for signing up to ANYTHING on the internet, that isn’t a brick a motor company. It’s suggested that giving out you email address to anyone that you don’t trust, is a bad idea. Creating a Hotmail account or a Gmail account for this will save your primary email address a lot of spam, and keep you’re mailbox identity safe.

4. Hide you’re IP address.

You can do this a couple of ways. Now you can jump to any site using a free proxy server, which can be done by configuring a Proxy in your browser config. Or by using a site like www.hidemyass.com, or you can install a VPN program like http://www.hotspotshield.com that will automatically switch your IP address through the VPN.

The issue with these FREE services is that they come with banner ads.

Pay for a VPN service with an anonymous credit card (Visa Cash Card), and you’ll be banner free.

Pirated iWork infected with Trojan. Nothing like iWarez! and iAdware oh and iBugs!

I recently checkout an Engadget story, about the Pirated iWork download. Which infected a reported 20,000 Macs.

First off - I’m guessing from the commentary on the post, the Mac users at engadget have a little issue with under standing what a virus is. What Trojan is, and what malware and adware are! Probably because up to now, the lower amount of user base in the Apple camp made it less of a target, for people trying to make money off you.

So.. What is a Trojan.. Wiki says:
In the context of computing and software, a Trojan horse, also known as a trojan, is a form of malware that appears to perform a desirable function but in fact performs undisclosed malicious functions that allow unauthorized access to the host machine. As such, a computer worm or virus may also be classed as a Trojan horse if they display these characteristics.

Is it a Virus. Is it Adware. Is it Malware… Well all the above could be true.

Since the term is coined of the battle of Troy, and the Trojan horse was used as a gift to infiltrate the enemy camp… The term Trojan, is simply that. A vessel to transport a piece of code to do something you are unaware of, ie. Infect you with a virus. Install Malware or Adware on your machine. In this case. The iWork Trojan was to install OSX.Trojan.iServices.A on your machine. To enable remote access to the people that wrote the service.

Now most of you have a great understanding of Parallels or other such virtualization software, if you are going to try a pirated copy of something. Try it on your test OS first. Make sure no new services are running, and so on. Or just go buy a copy.

Parallels Desktop 4.0 for Mac - Free 15 day trial version! Download now!

Put your MacBook to REST in it's PINE BOX!!

From posts on SlipperyBrick, Geeky-Gadgets.com
Complaining about a dead tree and a dead cow is kind of pointless.. How many plants died to make a polyurethane case that most Mac books are shoved into! Environmental concern my ass, but a hand-crafted wooden box, kind of kool.. think about a engraved or burned graphic mod on top of it! Hand Crafted by Rainer Spehi, it's also probably never going to hit an IKEA near you.

Oh how the BlackBerry Browser Does Suck -- O but wait!!

OPERA
Mini.Opera.Com Version 4.2

Your browsing on the Blackberry just got a whole lot nicer.
Point you Blackberries current brower to mini.opera.com and run the setup.
Accept Opera access to your network and continue through install.
Now many things i just love about this.. the maximized view gives you a zoom box to zoom in on content.
You will also notice that content is formatted nicely to fit your phones windows, making it easy to scroll through.
Bookmarks are nicely done, showing up on entry to Opera Mini as well as a Google search bar.
It may not be as cool as Safari on the iPhone, but it's leaps and bounds ahead of the defualt on the Blackberrys OS.

How Do I Say I Love You! A NANO - Apple's v-day is in gear.

Apple Store
It didn't take the folks at Apple long to switch gears from Holiday shopping promotions, to the How many ways do I love you, let me count the nano's, promotions. Well after a small break ( MacWorld 2009 ) and yes that's all I'm going to comment on a very disappointing show, in my opinion. It's like Microsoft holding an event for Office 2010 and eveyone getting excited.. The Valentines day deals are starting to pop up at the Apple Store. Nothing says "loving" like it printed on the back of an iPod Nano.

500 million app downloads for iPhone - Really?

Ok, so the iTunes app store has had 500 million app downloads so far! But does it really mean anything, considering that the Top app in iTunes for the iPhone and the iPod Touch is iFart, a completely useless application, that sends gaseous sounds out it's speakers. It would be more impressive if Apple promoted the iTunes app store with a press release that read, 400 million iFart downloads, and 100 million meaningful application downloads so far. Tongue in cheek, the App store has enable developers the distribution platform to reach it's users. Hopefully 2009 brings 500 Million ground breaking applications this year, oh and a iFart version 3.0.

WEB P2P - Does LittleShoot make the grade.

What is LittleShoot? Well it's a new tool which has been developed by the folks who brought us Limewire, the popular P2P file sharing client.

LittleShoot takes concepts of LimeWire one step further. It can be basically described in as P2P sharing through a browser, or it's self declaration of “P2P 2.0”.

While using LittleShoot you can share files using your browser and stream P2P downloads while searching services like YouTube and Flickr.

The three main functions of LittleShoot can then be defined as downloading, searching and publishing in a browser-based setting.

The ultimate goal of LittleShoot is to conjure up a tool that can contribute to the welfare of the public, by taking into account both its opinion and its input.

Now will LittleShoot be the next destination of PirateWare and Warez alike? Will It provide the same type of content and speeds as LimeWire.. Let hope not. In my opinion Limewire is slow, full of garbage and laced with adware and spyware trojans. Hopefully LittleShoot can provide some sort of content rating systems that allow the community the ability to rate submissions. Giving a voice to the community. Unlike LimeWire.

The first week of Jan 2009, What will it bring? iPhone Nano -OK I'm Bored.

Ok.. I'm sleep deprived, that I know! it's Jan. The kids schedules are all messed up due to the holiday bussel and hussel. Working on 4 hours a sleep a night, I'm hoping that Mac World 2009 is going to bring a little joy to my other wise busy life right now.

The rumors, well it doesn't take a big search to find them.. and since my little blog, means nothing to anyone.. It's probably not going to be the first time you hear that a iPhone Nano is on it's way.

Now I ask my self this, why do I want a iPhone nano.. I don't!  What is the niche for such a gadget.

Well I'm guessing it's going to be a purse phone, for the girly girls that are heading out for a night on the town.  They better ship it in HOT pink. It's the only color I see being a hit out on the market.

Ok, Maybe the iphone Nano, might hit a different price point.. iPay as you go... Maybe.

Or, Maybe the iPhone Nano - $99.98 4GB available at Walmart.

Ok - I'm bored already.  I'm sure every pre-schooler is counting thier pennies right now!
