iPaper - iPhone Amazon Kindle Application

So, what do you do when you have a catalog of more then 240,000 titles available, a proprietary device (Kindle) that is the only source of retail for your ebook Kindle store? Develop an application for a device that is in the hands of millions of customers already. Sure you lose the e-paper and text-to-speech *cough, but in a pinch using Kindle iPhone will let you carry your Kindle titles with you. [AMAZON]

Invasion Of The Book Snatchers - Text To Speech Doesn't Replace Audio Books.

It's all about fear and greed that the Amazon Kindle 2 Text to Speech has now become an optional feature on the Kindle 2. But has anyone really sat down and compared the two. It's really a no brainer. Text to speech, lacks emotion and story telling that a normal audio book provides. You lose the human quality of a story when you translate straight text to voice, AND .... I..... REPEAT..... you lose the emotion that is added when someone is reading it. The text to speech feature on the Kindle 2 was a fantastic accessibility option, but it was never going to replace a well crafted audio book.

This should never have happened, does the MPAA or RIAA have the right to stop a PMP from being created because it enable users to load pirated music or movies to it. The Authors Guild, has no legal leg to stand on, but Amazon has caved to issue. [CNET]

MyBeBook - Is it the Kindle 2 Competition

Ok, well BeBook looks more like the Kindle, than the Kindle 2. It's almost $100 cheaper than what the Kindle 2 will probably cost. Is also clamming the e-ink type technology gives the reader a true paper reading experience. Now maybe it's all too good to be true. It's produced by a Dutch company and they operate out of the Netherlands, the pdf format books in the collection include Pride and Prejudice, Sherlock Holmes and Grimm's Fairy Tales to name a few. Take a look, decide for yourself.

The Kindle part 2: Slimmer,Sleeker, almost worthy!

Kindle the 2nd Generation

The Amazon eBook reader, the Kindle will launch it's second generation eBook reader on Monday. The handle held reader update over the first generation, is almost what we wanted to see in an eBook reader.

First off, yes the keyboard is needed to operate and also connect and shop wireless at the Amazon eBook store. A uni body design keeping the keyboard away from a slide out design, is less flimsy. The only thing better would of been a multi-touch screen and a touch keyboard during store operations.

That leads to the next point, the screen could of been closer to paper size, making it true e-paper. Now the catch would be larger screen same hardware footprint, hence, multi-touch - screen keyboard... Oh well, maybe on the 3G

The backing on this reader is metal and adds to it's sturdy feel. With a very close first gen iPhone feel. Now does this mean you are going to run off and spend $359 on this lil bad boy. It's yet to be seen, the general consensus is, is that the price point is two high, most will be waiting for bargin sales to pick one up.

Using Kindle @ Princeton saves trees, kill students pockets!

I actually have a problem with using a proprietary device, as mush as I like the kindle at educational institutions. Making available course materials on the Kindle is a super idea, but only if Amazon, 1. Kicks in a major deal incentive. 2. Drops the course material price tags for all those text books. Why is this an amazing idea. Well! Think about carrying the Kindle, and only the Kindle to your classes. No more 50 pound backpacks weighing you down. I guess you'll need to do a few more shifts at your night job to pay for this one. Add in the Apple education deal and you are one tech-endowed pupil.

If you're in the market, the Kindle is now on a price drop and free two-day shipping.

Amazon steals Audible.com away from Apple.

  • Maybe not steal, but it’s a scoop for sure, Audible.com has for a long time been iPod friendly. It’s understood that this is a great vehicle for the Amazon Kindle plans.

The Kindle in its next generation (nick named Spindel) is rumored to also play MP3 files. With it’s WWAN(Wifi) connection, you’ll be able do download text or audio of you’re favorite books, maybe they will even hook in unbox, having the full portable entertainment system!

Apple probably should have bought up Audible.com, and added its catalogue to the already established iTunes audible books section. It’s starting to look like a Amazon – Apple war this year.
