WIndows 7 Pre Order - Pre-mature. Wait time 3 months

So Oct 22 isn't that far off, but it's still over a 3 month wait, but you have the option to purchase the upgrade for your windows Vista machines at a reduced rate through Amazon.com right now.
Home Premium(49.99) 58% saving or Professional(99.99) 50% savings. I'm thinking that Microsoft really does owe every licensed user of Vista a free upgrade to Windows 7. Seeing how Windows 7 is really the finished product that Vista was n0t. It's almost like they fixed everything that was wrong in Vista added a few bells and whistles. Wasn't that once call a service pack? See more at Amazon

Window 7 RC 1 Add-in's that make sense.

Acitve Peek on Taskbar

Windows 7 Beta testers made a large list of wants and fixes during the beta process, and the Microsoft Engineers respond with a list of fixes and user control features that make sense, and will hopefully speed up usage productivity.

Now the full list is here, but the features that top my favorites have to be, active peek during (alt tab) , hot key additions to quickly access the items on the task bar, you'll be able to use the windows fn key with the corresponding number key, example. IE, would be Windows Key + 2., pressing the sequence repeatedly will also cycle through the open instances of the program. Giving you the ability to flash through all open Internet Explorer windows. Also that the color Hot-track will stay active when the mouse hovers over the task bar. These simple three additions will give more control to the keyboard, with less time need to operate the mouse. I'm sure we will see some more exciting enhancements to Windows 7 before RC is release (Etimated April 10, 2009)

What will happen now that Apple is at 20,000 and Microsoft wants in!

Well, it's obvious, don't make it look like an apple, Sound like an apple or taste like an apple, and you might avoid a law suit. It's "APPLE'S" and Oranges in this case, and the MS App store will of course, have no iPhone or iTouch applications but will carry everything for everyone else, well that's my guess! What does the iTunes store care anyway, they have 20,000 apps, lots of fart noises and gag apps to satisfy almost every kid at heart!

Oh and what will android do! well, probably force all the Google apps down on you!!

I'm a PC -> Really! I thought I was at www.apple.com

Two Dudes and two PC's

And the video demo makes sure you know they are PC's. It's too funny! You know what would be even better! If every copy of Windows 7 shipped with an I'm a PC sticker in it's box.

You know, I'm on the Windows 7 product page, I'm viewing the Windows 7 quick demo. I'm also aware that a Windows machine is a PC. The obvious must be lost on some, and these two guys sort of resemble the guys from the Mac vs PC commercials. Don't they.. 1 Geeky 1 Balding!

MSN-Microsoft starts to dish gossip - Celebs take cover

Now, Since Thursday a search on Wonderwall in most search engines, brings up Oasis - Wonderall and the new Celeb gossip portal run by MSN Wonderwall.com Beta. It's led by Alex Flagg "Best Week Ever Blog".

Now at first glance, it's grocery store mag gossip, your A-Typical Celeb rag. It's basic concept is a pin up wall that you scroll left and right to find pinned up gossip on the Wonder"WALL". It's a wonder how long this one will take to flop. Sorry but with sites like OMG and TMZ, does the internet need another gossip portal.

Maybe, we can't get enought I suppose!

BETA - Windows 7 unavailable soon, did you BETA?

In the coming days Microsoft will be closing BETA for Window 7. To quote them "Time is running out! We'll be closing the Customer Preview Program for new registrations soon. So if you want to try the Windows 7 Beta, be sure to register and download within the next few days. (Now would be a good time, actually.)"

So, if you keen on finding out what all the fuss is about.. then head on over to the Beta download site: HERE

So with BETA Windows 7 coming to a close, Release Candidate 1 is around the corner, as Microsoft gets closer to the Windows 7 release date.

Sadly, the same licensing scheme is being deployed for Window 7, with 6 possible configurations to separate wallets from pockets for what really is a piece meal.

  • Windows 7 Starter
  • Windows 7 Home Premium
  • Windows 7 Professional
  • Windows 7 Enterprise
  • Windows 7 Ultimate.
  • Windows 7 Home Basic will also be sold, but only to emerging markets.

But it is mostly about $ for what is in each version, versions that remove WMP to allow for EU anti-trust rulings, and about making the most out of your product.

It's not really bad for consumers, a cheaper OS on a low cost hardware platform makes sense for consumers, and a fully package bundle for high end consumers and enterprises. With that said. Windows 7 will be making it's debut soon enough. For some Vista is a nightmare, I personally feel Microsoft and sony owe me $1000, for a sony viao that was toasted by Vista or Sony's hardware. With a defunct hard-drive and burn in lines on the monitor, was it hardware, device drivers, or a bad os..

Windows 7, seems to be meeting expectations, it's removal of it's block everything and ask before you continue, has been re-worked. It's speed and BSOD seems to be less of an occurance.

HD + Movies + UI = AppleTV - No it's the upcoming XBOX

Ok, the new iteration of the XBOX will look more like a PMC (Personal Media Center), then an online gaming console it was designed as. One day soon, you'll be able to download Halo 10 and the Sex in all the cities!! It's all about being the ALL-IN_ONE Device... I still think a dig-cable tuner and DVR software would be needed, I don't want to have to pay for TV shows if i'm already paying my cable bill. Ok so the hard-drive the addition of Netflix and a UI that looks more Apple then Microsoft. More over at XBOX.com

Microsoft Downloads - FREE Malicious Software Removal Tool (KB890830)

Malicious Software Removal Tool (KB890830)
Microsoft has a really nice habit these days of trying to give you software that not only is free, but it will hopefully stop the pushing of malware designed to hook you into paying for a fake virus or malware scanner.
The Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool checks Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows Server 2003 computers for and helps remove infections by specific, prevalent malicious software—including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom. When the detection and removal process is complete, the tool displays a report describing the outcome, including which, if any, malicious software was detected and removed. The tool creates a log file named mrt.log in the %WINDIR%\debug folder.
Get more information from the Malicious Software Removal site:

Microsoft DRM stinks like consumer fraud!

Ok, so I'm anti-DRM (Digital Rights Management). Not for a free-for-all pirating world, No! It's because as a consumer, if I buy a product. I expect to own it!
With Microsoft closing its DRM service , they are leaving the consumers with something they don't own, and when that hardward and OS that the player is installed on dies! So does the product which was paid for and owned by the consumer. Even if the songs are backed up and saved on external media, if the operating system and it's registry that holds the certificate is gone, the DRM will fail to authenticate, access denied.

Wouldn't it be nice if Microsoft made available a tool to allow purchasers of the service a way to unlock the DRM on the music they purchased. In a perfect world it would be! Probably some pissed off fanboy will start a lawsuit.
It's moves like this that make music sharing and P2P sharing networks more popular. DRM is bad for business, it's bad for the consumer.

Photo Story 3, Microsofts Picasa! Sort of.

Microsoft's Photo Story 3 for Windows.
I've always been a fan of photo collection software, sorting, editing and creating collections of my favorite pics is a great time waster around my house.

Photo Story at first glance is just an update to the MS-Photo editor that used to pop-up when I clicked a graphic file. They have come a long way from that useless app. To a more full fledged photo gallery app.

You can now Create slideshows, burn DVD's, create fun photo stories that you can share with your family and friends. Photo Story 3 for Windows is a free download available here. It's a lot faster than picasa, only becuase the Google Picasa photo discovery service is a real pain! and the folder drop down takes way too long to load.

Windows XP SP3 coming soon! This week?

Windows SP3 to be finally released.
Windows XP End of life is this June. This will most likely be the end of the service fixes for XP. With the Windows Vista SP1 Service pack release last week, it's the signal of the end for all the XP fans, as Microsoft will start to shift it's staffing to Vista requirements and the new upcoming OS (2010) . It doesn't mean that everyone is going to jump the Vista train just yet. Looks like most will likely migrate after Vista SP2. SP1 seems to less than perfect!
Check Windows XP landing page later this week for SP3 download info
[Mar 25, 2008] Looks like MS has delayed it again, they just released SP3 RC3.. Not much additional fixes in RC3. So maybe it's the last release canidate. Honestly.. they probably won't firm it up until the EOL this June.. means.. here you go.. SP3... Have fun! XP is done.

Don't pay full price for the XBOX HDDVD addon

UPDATE: Correction. XBOX HD-DVD will be dumped from the Microsoft product line. Expect to see these with "must go" price tags. In dumpsters, marked as "right-offs" very soon.

Rumor: Microsoft to lower price on HD DVD add on. The rumor mills are flying about what Microsoft will do with it's HD DVD support. Price to hit under $50 in near future for the HD DVD addon drive. Yes the HD DVD content library won't be added to, the same as the BlueRay format anymore, you still might want to pick up one of these to play all the old discount HD DVD content. We say.. forget it! it's still a waste of $50.

Will it be a PS3 Blueray or a XBOX HDDVD

Just Commentary: Will BlueRay support be added to the Xbox.
The obvious answer is YES. The when is still up for grabs? Since we now know that HDDVD will be leaving the market "EXIT STORE LEFT". Blueray DVD is now the defacto standard. Microsoft will probably hold out, but eventually they will move to Blueray to support the next generation movie releases.

Maybe SONY won't license the Blueray technology to Microsoft.
Maybe Microsoft will try to extend the HD DVD with promotions of past titles. If you own an xbox then you could always stream Blueray Discs from your computer to the xbox.

Right now like everyone, there are more questions than answers. The only answer I have, is buy a gaming system to play games that you are interested in. If you like Microsoft titles than buy an XBox. If you want a PS3 with Blueray... buy it because you love the PlayStation games.

Microsoft to go Hostile? Depends on Yahoo's board.

This weekend shook out, with the Yahoo board of directors giving the 43 Billon dollar deal a thumbs down today, why!

They say Yahoo is worth more. As we have seen. It wouldn't matter how much money Microsoft threw at Yahoo, it's never going to be enough. Competitors never get along, and if they accepted the offer, it would be like sleeping with your enemy.

So what might happen? Microsoft can look at moving towards a "Hostile" take-over and let the courts decide, or get enough Microsoft friendly members on the Yahoo board and sweeten the deal.

Overall, this whole thing is stupid and it's basically a waste of time and energy. Most people search and advertise with Google and most of the other stuff Microsoft already owns, who are they kidding.. a Microsoft Yahoo Search is still going to be second best.. I guess they just want to move up in the rankings! I like both Yahoo and Microsoft for different reasons.... just not as one.

What does Microsoft really want with Yahoo!

Why Does Microsoft want Yahoo!

It's a valid question? Maybe the only thing they want from Yahoo! Is the advertising software? Maybe to integrate the yahoo search algorithms.

If you look at what Microsoft does better than Yahoo, and again the other way. What does this leave?

Maybe it's to dismantle portions of yahoo that Microsoft just doesn't want out there or to transform Yahoo Shopping into a Microsoft shop of the world.

Yahoo widgets would probably stay around, seeing how the user base is Windows XP and Mac users.

Maybe they want the Domain Hosting to up-sell MySpace users with thier own domain names!

Could it be that Yahoo chat is cutting into MSN Messenger… don't think so...

Overall - What do they want! They want what makes money! It's the Yahoo Search Solutions and advertising pieces that Microsoft hasn't figured out how to do very well. What they do know how to do is integrate products into their own software. This is really about Microsoft wanting to take on Google for market share.

Only time will tell. But Google is certainly going to make this as hard as possible for Microsoft to do.

Maybe someone at Microsoft is looking for a date in the Yahoo Personals!

Microsoft to buy Yahoo!

If the billion dollar offer goes through and Microsoft owns Yahoo, what does will it mean?

Microsoft will finally enter the search engine market as a player. As much as they have tried, MSN Search hasn't taken off as Microsoft had hoped. When they purchase Yahoo, they take over and integrate Yahoo Search as well as Yahoo Overture and probably trash the rest, convert yahoo mail to MSN Live.

Letter from Microsoft to Yahoo Board

I'm a fan of Yahoo and Microsoft as seperate companies, I really hope the Board doesn't believe they need Microsoft and it's offer to make a profit, and generate growth. If this went through I don't seen any gains for Yahoo, only for Microsoft.

I see this as a WIN - LOSE...
