Lenovo X301 to ship with 128GB SSD as option?

ThinkPad
The x-series x301 from Lenovo, is rumored to be shipping with a 128GB Solid State Hard Drive (SSHD) . Which is double the current 300 series SSHD at 64GB.

Solid State Drives like Compact flash, are making the ultra portable laptops, lighter and extremely power conscious. The pro's of SSD hard drives out weight most users usage types than do the con's. The reason for this is a that the con's of a SSD drive is that it's expensive, and that it has lower write access cycles than a conventional hard disk. Pro's of an SSD hard drive. Well the seek times are faster for file io, fragmentation of files does not slow performance and the failure rate is a fraction of normal drives due to the elimination of the moving parts. The biggest plus for mobile computing using an SSD is the it's light weight and draws a fraction of normal power consumption on the 3 Cell LiPolymer Bay Battery.

Lenovo takes the curtain off the X200 ThinkPad.

ThinkPad

Introducing the ThinkPad X200: Available August 5, 2008
The X200 is Lenovo’s new 12-inch business notebook and has a starting price of just $1,434, making it an excellent value for anyone who needs a fully-capable notebook that can get them through a full work day. This may not be a developers dream, but it will make anyone looking for a highly capable notebook extremley happy.

The X200 is totaly different type of laptop than the 13.3-inch X300, which is optimized to be as thin and light as possible and has a low-voltage processor, built-in DVD burner, and a solid state drive and has an eye-popping sticker price of $3,225 (available for $2,400 after discounts and ecoupon use). The X200 doesn’t have an optical drive, but it does have full-speed Intel Core 2 Duo processors, an array of drive options and an optional docking solution.
The X200 is extremely fast for an ultraportable. Most applications open virtually instantaneous and the X200 ripped through installation applications and photo editing and graphical software packages like Fireworks and Photoshop. Tests conducted on video encoding showed great speed increases over older thinkpad models.

Lenovo equiped the X200 with a full-sized keyboard that is very comfortable to use, as you can expect from an enterprise-class ThinkPad. The X200 has an UltraNav (red eraser-head style) finger pointer instead of a touch trackpad.

The X200 doesn’t have an optical drive, but it can be docked with an UltraBase that packs a DVD burner, four USB ports, a Display Port and more. The UltraBase can pack an extra hard drive and can charge an extra battery while plugged in- a great feature for business travelers.

ThinkPad X200 Specs:

  • ThinkPad X200 Hard Drive Options: 80GB, 160GB, 250GB and 320GB (5400rpm); 100GB and 160GB (7200rpm) or 64GB SSD.
